Brush tools include Brush and Pencil, which draws shapes with a foreground color in the drawing area. The Brush tool draws lines with soft edges, even the hard-edge brushes would not create jagged edges. The Pencil tool draws stiff lines which often appear with jagged edges. Brush or pencil tool are used in exactly the same manner, and they can be introduced with the Brush tool as an example.
When Brush tool is selected, five parameters, Brush, Mode, Opacity, Diameter and foreground color, will appear on the right side of the tool bar. Choose Brush to get a proper painting brush. Select Mode to set a brush mode, normal or dissolved. The Opacity parameter determines the transparency level, where 100% means completely opaque. Drag Diameter to change the diameter of the brush. Finally, pick up a foreground color and then begin painting. Click the mouse and then drag the mouse for a desired shape. To draw a straight line, click at a starting point, press the Shift key and then click at an end point.

This tool clears the color and turns the area into transparent.
Select Eraser tool and set four parameters, Brush, Mode, Opacity, and foreground color on the right side of the tool bar. The erase operation can be conducted exactly as the reverse process of the Brush tool.

This tool fills a large area of an image with the foreground color.
Select the Bucket tool, two parameters, Opacity and Threshold, will appear on the right side of the tool bar. Choose Opacity to obtain a proper level of transparency, where 100% means opaque. Change the value in the Threshold box to update the tolerance or color range. The tolerance is defined by the color of the pixel at the clicking point. Pixels with colors within this tolerance will be filled by the Bucket tool. The smaller the value, the smaller color range is, and the smaller number of pixels will be filled up.

This tool removes red eyes in character pictures by filling the eyeball areas with another color, e.g., light green.
Select Red Eye tool, the Radius parameter will appear on the right side of the tool bar. Choose Radius to adjust the radius to a proper size and then click on the red eyeballs.

There are a set of tools for adjusting exposure. The Dodge tool makes an image brighter, while the Burn tool makes it darker. They are used in exactly the same manner, and here we only introduce the Dodge tool.
Select Dodge tool, four parameters, Brush, Range, Exposure, and Diameter will appear on the right side of the Tool and Contrl bar,. Choose Brush to get a proper painting brush. Select Range of Shadows, Mid-tones, Highlights, which corresponding to the shadow, middle-tone or the highlight area respectively, to be modified. Choose Exposure to obtain a proper exposure where 100% means the brightest. Drag the Diameter slider to change the diameter of the Dodge brush.

These are tools for adjusting edge contrast. The Blur tool softens edges and reduces details, while the Sharpen tool increases the edge contrast and reveals more details. The more frequently this tool is used, the more apparent the effect is. These two tools are used in the same manner, so we only introduce the Blur tool.
Select the Blur tool, four parameters, Brush, Mode, Strength, and Diameter appear on the right side of the tool bar. Choose Brush to get a proper painting brush, Mode to get a normal mode, Strength to obtain a desired strength where 100% means the strongest, Diameter to change the diameter of the Blur brush.

This tool samples an image to paint, that is, it paints one part of an image over another part of this image. It is of great use in copying, repairing defects, removing spots, freckles and wrinkles.
Press Ctrl key and click on the current image to sample a point, release the key, and click to paste the sample point.
