Add a Decorative Design/Pattern to the Cloth in a Picture

In this tutorial, I’ll talk about how to add a decorative design or pattern to people’s cloth in a picture. It is a really fun technique, which make the picture more colorful. After learn, you can add any decorative pattern you like to a cloth.

I’d like to choose a girl with white dress for demonstration. The following is the contrast picture before and after add.

Different style, right? Now, here we go.

First step: Open a picture and choose a tool to make a selection which you wanna put the decorative pattern on. Here, I choose Polygonal Lasso.

Second step: Open the decorative pattern as a new layer, after made the selection.

Third step: Move the pattern to the range of the selection. Then, Press “Ctrl + C” and “Ctrl + V” to copy this selection pattern.

Fourth step: Click the pattern layer to make it invisible. You can use Free Transformation tool to adjust the size and location of the pattern. Next, adjust the Blending of layer 2 to Color Burn.

The early effect comes out. Wheel to enlarge, use Eraser Tool to erase the unwanted part.

The last step: Copy layer 2, and set the copied layer’s Opacity to 50%. You can zoom in or out with arrow tool. We’re done.
